  신씨의 선계(先系)는 중국(中國) 농서성(隴西省) 출신인 신시랑(辛侍郞)이 당나라 천보년간(天寶年間 : 742~755, 일설에는 신라 경덕왕 시대 : 682~704라도도 함) 사신으로 신라에 들어와 정착하게 된 것으로 전하고 있으나 확증할 자료가 없다.
  조선씨족통보에 신씨의 본관을 60본까지 기록하고 있으나 영산과 영월을 제외한 본관은 미상(未詳)이다.
