  원래 본관은 충주 단본이다.
  옛 문헌에도 충주 지씨(忠州池氏) 외에 단양 지씨(丹陽池氏)와 광주 지씨(廣州池氏)가 나와 있으나, 충주지씨의 분파로서 현재는 충주 지씨로 일원화되었으며 그밖의 다른 본관은 충주 지씨의 세거지였다고 한다.
