이항로 (李恒老)
1808년(순조 8) 한성시에 합격했으나 벼슬을
단념하고 오로지 학문에만 전심하며 후진을 양성했다. 1840년(헌종
6) 학행으로 천거되어 참봉에 임명되었으나 사퇴했다. 1864년(고종 1)
천거로 장원서 별제가 되고 이어 전라도 도사, 지평, 장령, 동부승지
등을 거쳐 공조참판에 이르렀다.
조선 말기의 가장 저명한 성리학자로서
존왕양이의 대의를 주장했기 때문에 그의 문하에서 창의 호국운동의
중심인물이 많이 배출되었다.
내부대신에 추증되었다.
