 최무선 (崔茂宣)

 

 


  고려 말기의 유명한 인물로는 발명가이다.
  그는 원(元)나라의 화약 기술자로부터 기술을 배워 그 제조법을 익혔으며 조정에 건의, 화통도감을 설치케 하고 그 책임자가 되어 화포, 화전, 화통 등의 화기를 만들어 때마침 쳐들어 온 왜구의 선박 500여 척을 전멸시켰다.
  1401년(조선 태종 1) 조선의 화기 보유량은 화약 4근 4냥, 화기 200여 병(柄)이던 것을 그가 관장한 뒤
  1419년(세종 1)에는 화약 6,900여 근, 화기 1만 3500여 병, 화포발사군 1만여 명이라는 놀라운 숫자로 발전시켰다.
